Our daily lives are filled with delays, missed opportunities, setbacks, and outright nuisances. It happens to us all. However bad a circumstance seems and feels, it could always be worse. It may seem unnatural and perhaps silly to think of hypothetical situations when you have a real problem at hand; but thinking of all the ways the situation could have been worse makes it so much easier to accept and deal with it. Whether good or bad, there’s a reason behind everything. In the words of Marilyn Monroe, “People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies to you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”

f you do happen to find out how a particular problem gifted you with a blessing, share it with everyone you know so they can benefit too. The more we openly recognize how we’re fortunate, the happier and more content we will be. Let’s change how we think about inconveniences, missed opportunities, and problems, because oftentimes, it is for the best; we might just not know it.

  1. Serotonin, melatonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Where they live – in the brain. What they do – create balance in the way we think, feel and subsequently behave. What helps them thrive – thankfulness, dark berries, grapes and other anti-oxidant rich foods and beverages. (Yes! Cocoa is good for you! Not a lot of chocolate necessarily, but cocoa is fine. If it must be chocolate, eat the dark type with limited sugar.Eat a lot of it.) What shuts them down – complaining, anger and anxiety, and other negative things. What they do for our health, when allowed to thrive – protect us from ulcers, high blood pressure, arthritis, and even high negative cholesterol. Conclusion – eat berries, dark chocolate and grapes; don’t get into a bad habit of complaining, toward self (self-talk) or toward others. In other words, be thankful for life and you’ll spot the good things. Like that word nuisances. Take out “is” and you’ve got “nuances”., Nuance defined – A subtle or slight degree of difference, as in meaning, feeling, or tone. How would living thankfully daily create a nuance for you, as it relates to your self-talk? That “subtle difference” could protect your health and the health of someone you care about. Something to consider.

    1. Loved this take on it! I had a few “nuances” this year alone and at times I didn’t know how I had gotten to wjhere I found myself. But when I sat down and really dug deep, these were all blessings disguised as obstacles in my journey. It is now leading me down another road, the one less travelled, but I am so grateful, because honestly, the old road was worn and dirty and it was no longer serving me!

  2. I suffer from chronic pain after an injury. Surgeons and doctors can’t help me even years later. I deal with my pain on a daily basis, and sometimes it really hurts, and I can’t do anything else. On those days, I wish I never went outside that day and got injured. Why did it happen to me? On the other hand, I remind myself that it could have been much worse, and I give thanks for all the other things I have.

    1. So sorry Andrew to hear you live in such pain. I too had an accident that delivered scars and pain to me, however, not as bad as it sounds like you suffer. I also sometimes wish it had never happened, but like you, realize it could’ve been much much worse and am thankful.

  3. I Love it.. I Love learning new things, and most of the times, I will need someone to put me through the basis… Each time I ask for help from those who knows it so well…. They reply *i don’t have time*…. Because of that I grew the act of learning things myself (very difficult, sometimes frustrating)… To any extent I get am always thankful because am doing it myself….

  4. I struggle with PTSD, but I am coming to be grateful for getting triggered, because as I struggle, I discover new things about myself, and I embrace new ways of healing myself.
