A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.’ – Herm Albright

As much as we try to be positive all.the.time, negativity and doubtful thoughts always manage to creep in. Especially during times of physical, mental and emotional weakness. During these times, I try to take small positive thoughts, and repeat them over and over, or in my mind remind myself of all of the things I am thankful for. Putting yourself and your situation in Perspective is vital.

Did you know that studies have shown that an attitude is contagious? If you put a group of people in a room then the person who displays the strongest attitude will influence everyone else, no matter what their attitude is. You’ve experienced this yourself. I’m sure everyone can think of a time when they were feeling just neutral and depending on if a co-worker walked in with a bad attitude or a positive attitude that you eventually started seeing yourself adopting the same attitude.

You have to change that way you think. Every day that you wake up you have to be grateful for everything you have. Even if you’ve got nothing. Be grateful that you have the space cleared of junk. Then go about each day making a conscious decision to have a great attitude, no matter what everyone else is doing. If you’re positivity is stronger than their negativity, they will eventually come to your way of thinking.

In our lives we are constantly bombarded with stress, negative people, situations, and bad environments. But it is what we take away from it, and how we choose to react to the situation that is before us. That is a choice, therefore choose to be positive. There is no other way. Jot down some of these simple positive thoughts, the next time you need to take a step back, and breathe.

  1. Yeah, our ancient, reptilian brains are responsible for most of this. We are hard-wired to see the negative, the bad, to avoid danger and invoke the fight or flight response. You are right, though. We choose to ignore this response and seek out the beauty in situations, rather than the negative. It’s tough, but all of us have the power of choice on our side.

  2. So true. I always find the day is so much better when the first experiences are positive ones. I always try to be positive when I first walk in the office, and it’s an attitude that definitely rubs off on others.

    1. It indeed is! 🙂 The days I have started with going for a proper walk right after waking up before eating healthy breakfast have always been great no matter even if something really bad has happened during the day. I atleast remember the good start. When things go right though.. Even better day! It is also nice to notice the good effect feeling positive can have on others. Just need to remember to not be pushy positive. 😉

  3. Hi Empress,

Love the quote at the beginning. My students and I are learning what being a person of transformational resistance is. That is a person who changes in a tough situation and thereby changing the people around them. You nailed it on the head.

    Thank you,

    Gary
