Your body sends constant signals, telling you what’s good for you and what’s not working.  It has an inner guidance system that tries to get you to pay attention to any adjustments you need to make in your life.  For example, your headache and tense shoulders may be a sign of an unresolved issue that’s causing you distress.  Inconvenient as they are, these pains are your allies, begging you to look up and see what’s not working in your life.  It’s easy to become too busy and ignore any discomfort in our bodies until it becomes worse.  Don’t ignore potentially important messages from your body!

Here are some of the self care practices for good days:

  1. Meditate
  2. Practice Yoga
  3. Declutter your closet
  4. Write a list of things you love about yourself.
  5. Practice Gratitude
  6. Watch the sunrise/sunset
  7. Practice positive affirmations
  8. Walk in nature
  9. Stargaze
  10. Exfoliate and moisture your skin
  11. Visit a cafe (alone or with a friend)
  12. Go to the movies
  13. Make a smoothie or juice
  14. Go to the gym or a fitness class
  15. Bake a cake
  16. Write poetry
  17. Do a digital detox
  18. Visit a Spa
  19. Read a Book
  20. Make a positive playlist
  21. Create Art
  22. Have a bath
  23. Do a face mask
  24. Create a pinterest board of self love quotes
  25. Try on outfits that make you feel good about yourself
  26. Create a self care habit tracker

Emotional and physical well-being depend on the balance between giving and receiving.  The receiving can also come from you, by paying closer attention to your body and your emotions.  Remember the safety instruction when you fly: “If there is lack of oxygen put the mask on yourself first before putting it on the minor.”  Taking care of yourself is not just good for you, but it is also the beneficial for your family.

  5. I believe this to be true. If I skip a couple days of exercise I can feel my legs (especially) wanting to stretch and exercise!

    1. Practicing self-care strategies during your workouts and in your free time can help you come back stronger, and in a more peaceful headspace—not to mention they make exercise that much more enjoyable. Steal some tips from these top trainers who manage to sweat it out hardcore and still make self-care a priority.

    2. If your goal in this life is to be selfless, start with yourself. When you’re taken care of, everybody else can be too. Putting yourself first isn’t selfish. It’s the first, only and overlooked step toward putting anybody else before your own needs

  8. Hi Garima,

These simple things keep us more human is a busy digital world. I like to think. Life goes by so fast, slow down and enjoy it. Can I refer to your list on my podcast? I also work with a couple of my blogger friends in a nerd and geek show, Neekology101 ( nerd and geek). We are doing a series on overall health issues for creatives and your list fits a part in it. I wanted to add:

Enjoy hummingbirds a feeder. Laugh even at goofy jokes. Make a checklist. Check things off the list. Play legos or action figures with your children.

    Thank you,

    Gary
